Music:Songs To Wear Pants To - Never (Extended)

Well, I'm relaxing back at my apartment after five days spent with my family for Christmas celebration. Tomorrow marks the return to normality and to work, and I assure you I'm not looking forward to it. But you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

Now, it's traditional in this journal for me to list off my yearly haul. So without further ado, here we go. The gifts I was given, as well as a few things I bought with money or gift cards given to me.

No photo this year, sorry. )

Aaaaand I can't think of a good closing line, so... good night.

There are critters in Dwarf Fortress called Rhesus Macaques. They are monkeys. I hate them because they're thieving assholes that swarm your fortress, half a dozen at a time, and steal random shit. They're a very good reason for making the entry to your fortress a chokepoint stuffed with cage traps. I hate them so much I've come up with a tremendous, pointlessly cruel method of disposing of them.

Cut for the faint of heart. )

Dear Yuletide Author (because the Archive is not playing nicely with my browser and will not let me comment on your story):

Wow, wow, and even more wow. Not only did you fill the prompt I was secretly hoping for the most and melted my stony little heart with it, but you floored me with the finale crossover, and made it work spectacularly. I have a long workday tomorrow, but I will hopefully return in the evening to blither properly at length. Thank-you so very very much for making my Yuletide this year, and I hope your own gift was just as fantastic.

Well, it looks like I'll be jumping back on Taps for the first time in damn near two years, sometime in the next couple of days. There's probably still a lot of shit that'll annoy me there, but I figure there's still people there I like and they might appreciate knowing that I'm still in one piece. :)

EDIT: Shit, it's actually been over two years, now. Time flies...

WOW.
This show continues to impress me in so many ways. It is quite possibly some of the best blend of detective mystery and superhero I've seen in a good long time. Everything Kamen Rider has been lacking in recent years, W has had.

And holy shoes, there's so much more going on with the Sonozaki family behind the scenes than I would have realized. The smile Ryubee Sonozaki had at the end of 14 tells me that we're not getting the full story regarding the Gaia Memories and his family.

- I'm probably not going to be on much the next few days since I'm at home and on dialup, so I wanted to wish everyone happy holidays and all that jazz. Rock the eggnog for me, will ya?

- I went to see Avatar in 3D. If you're thinking of going the route of the Buddy Holly glasses, (And if not, that's okay! The movie seems perfectly watchable in normal vision too.), I believe it's worth it and the best usage of 3D I have seen, though this is not a hard territory to conquer. There's obviously been some great care that went into incorporating the element rather than using it as the "let's do a couple of scenes and throw stupid shit at the camera" gimmick monkey like with... Um, well, nearly every 3D film ever. (Coraline also did their 3D scenes well for much of the same reasons but to not the extent of Avatar.) The movie itself is a pleasant experience and one that I did not regret viewing, but the Ferngully references are apt. Of course, my point is probably invalidated because I own a couple of pairs of Awesome analglyph shades for no absolutely reason*. ;p

- I had my first eye exam in three years today! My eyes continue to not suck and maintain the same status I've had since high school. Go eyes!

- Wandered around Pigeon Forge this Christmas Eve, checking out old haunts. My old work place at the music store is closing down. The whole chain, in fact. Ah, the days where I took advantage of their special order system for obscure metal. I miss that, but everything else is free to go away. In rememberance/celebration. I relieved them of their Sonata Arctica and Amon Amarth CDs since they were all half off. :D

And that's it! Now, dance! For Christmas!

* - Okay, I take it back. I did have a reason. At one point, I was playing around with the idea of making an artsy-fartsy game with anaglyph stuff. I dumped that idea quickly because I couldn't figure out where to take it and for the safety of my eyes in the debugging process. Now I just tend to wear them around at conventions and random Channel Z skits. I find this perfectly acceptable.

Mood: happy
Music:none, as my earbuds died the other week

I'm a bit too sleepy to come up with a clever title tonight.

So I'm relaxing at my parents' house with said parents and my brother Kipp, all of us winding down in preparation for the morning. Yesterday Kipp picked me up from my apartment and brought me down here, where we had the party with Mom's side of the family. And tonight we just returned from dinner with my grandmother on Dad's side. So it's been a nice couple of days, and I'm free to stay here until Sunday. (Got W-F off from work, and my next shift isn't until Monday.)

Now, since Indigo reminded me I hadn't posted about this, I thought I'd share the current news on my schooling. Still working on that accounting degree; I only managed to register for two credits this past semester, because I left registration until late. But I made it through that 2-credit course with a solid 4.0. And I've got 8 credits to look forward to in the winter/spring semester: Cost/Managerial Accounting I and Federal Income Tax I. Plus I was approved for some financial aid! The need-based grant I got will cover the school year's total tuition and then some, which is great news to hear.

With that all recorded, it's off to bed with me. I know, I know, but no matter how old I get I will never stop being excited about this night. Kipp commented during the party Wednesday that my eyes lit up when we were getting to the present-opening time, and you know what? I'm proud of that and I refuse to outgrow it. |D Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone. ♥

...

I just realized, all my sleeping clothes are in the wash. Shay, I don't think you thought your cunning plan all the way through.

If you're wondering what songs got stuck in my head for 2009, I got *really* bored and made a Last.FM playlist of them.. Sadly, not all of them have a track listing on there, so you're going to have to tough it out by youtubing things that potentially catch your eye. It's not really in any order save for the top 11 or so (Honestly, not a Spinal Tap ref. I just really liked the new GWAR album, so shut up.) which are probably my favorite albums this revolution around the sun. The rest are songs that either got stuck in my head, from albums I really enjoyed on the whole and had a hard time choosing one track or I am completely baffled by and feel the need to share it with others. I'm sure I'm forgetting a shitlot of them too, but this is a big enough list as is. Enjoy.

Overall, not a bad year for metal and general Music I Like (2009). There were a few disappointments (I'm looking at you, Stratovarius. Looking at you so hard with my sad face. Actually, to all of the Power Metal genre: where *were* you guys? Savage Circus is about the strongest release from that side I saw this year! And more Savage Circus is excellent, but still!) So... Yeah.

Bonus: Also, I'm going to link to the Diablo Swing Orchestra because it's fun as hell to listen to.
